You might be knowing that recently many Gmail users were victim of losing emails and folders from their account. Though Gmail tried their best to recover the lost data and also ensure that the people will not face such problem again but who can say that some other problem will not arise in future ?
So it is wise to keep a backup of your important Gmail account. While number of procedures are available to backup Gmail, I would like to describe a simple and secured way to keep the backup of all the emails from Gmail using Windows Live Mail account.
Create Auto Backup System for Gmail Account with Live Mail
The first thing to do is creating a new account in Windows Live Mail website.
Wisely, choose your account name when creating the account. Give the name as yourgmailaccountname+backup@
live.com. For example, if you want to keep the backup of your Gmail account KnightRiders@gmail.com, give the live account name as KnightRidersbackup@live.com. Though you can name the account anything else associated with backup. once you are completed with creating the new account in live.com, you will get a new verification email in your inbox.
Click on that link to be verified, otherwise the account will not work properly.
Setting Up your Gmail Account
Step 1: Sign in to your Gmail account and click the gear from top-right corner of the page then select Account settings link.
Step 2: Head your mouse over Gmail Settings and click it.
Step 3: In this step, you are about to enable the forwarding and POP property for your Gmail account. Flip to Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and choose the button Enable POP for all mail (even mail that’s already been downloaded).
Step 4: Scroll down and click "Save Changes" button to save settings you made.
Setting Up the Windows Live Email Account to Fetch Emails in Gmail Acc.
Step 1: Sign in to your Windows Live account, enter into inbox and then click on More options… under Options.
Step 2: The Hotmail Options page appears. Head your mouse onSending/receiving email from other accounts under the Managing your account header and click on it.
Step 3: Select Add an email account option.
Step 4: Type in your Gmail account details and click on the Next button.
Step 5: Now specify a folder in your live account so that all the mails from your Gmail account are saved in that folder. So, select the option “A separate folder, called: ” and give a suitable name.
Step 6: This will keep a copy of every emails from your Gmail account and hence your Gmail account is backed up.
Note: If your Gmail account have many number of mails, Live mail will take some time to retrieve all your emails from your Gmail account. In the mean time go for a cup of coffee while your Gmail account is being backed up.
